The Best Pesto Pasta

Hi everyone!  Today I want share with you an experiment :)  I made up this recipe all on my own, so for a novice cook I think that it turned out pretty yummy, if I do say so myself!  I also promised my sister Amy that I would point out that she made this bowl herself in her ceramics class :)

This is a picture of my brother Daniel and his wife Amanda.  You know something is yummy when people are snitching from the pot :)

Ingredients:

12 oz pasta
Pesto
Heavy whipping cream
milk
butter
Parmesan Cheese
Salt
Pepper
Lemon juice

Directions:

Cook the pasta in boiling water until it is almost done, but still is firm with a little bit of crunch.  (You are still going to continue to cook it, but the hope is to still end up with pasta that is aldente).  Next add about a 1/4 cup heavy whipping cream.  Next add about 1 cup milk.  I used skim milk, because that is what my family normally drinks, but you could certainly try 1 or 2 percent.  Then add about 1/4 of a stick of butter.  Then mix in about 5 oz cheese.  (make sure that as you add these ingredients that you are continually stirring your drained pasta.  Then add in a pinch of salt and pepper and add a touch of lemon juice.  Add pesto to taste :)

And voila!  Super yummy pesto pasta!  I bet that your family will snitch it out of the pan too!

DIY Party Ideas

This week was my Dad's 50th birthday!  I love him and I hope that he knows how much we love him!  We decided to have a surprise party for him and we pulled it off!  He had no idea!  Here is a picture of my family at the surprise party:

To celebrate my dad's 50th birthday I wanted to make a fun banner, and of course I had to add a few lollies :)

I cut out those letters free hand, because I wanted it to look funky and homemade.  If you don't know how to make lollies click here for a tutorial.  I poked a hole and hung them from fishing line.  Here is a close up of some of my lollies:

Here's a pic of all the silverware together. I decided to use a cute little arrow and a wooden button.  Here is what they looked like all together:

There you have it.  A few DIY touches that can be added to a party.  What do you think?

The Perfect Appetizer

Hi everyone!  Today I am super excited to share with you this super yummy appetizer that I made for my Dad's birthday!  My Dad usually orders some kind of Caprese Appetizer when we got to Italian restaurants, so I decided to try my hand at re-creating it :)  It was pretty gratifying when my family ate them all and wanted more!  It was the highlight of my Dad's birthday dinner!

Ingredients:

4 Roma Tomatoes
Fresh Basil
Mozzarella
Balsamic Vinegar
Olive Oil
Salt
Pepper

Directions:

Slice Mozzarella into disk shapes.  Cut tomatoes and stack on the mozarella.  Then add your freshly chopped basil.  Then add salt and pepper to taste.  Then drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.  Then eat it!

Here is another shot of this yummy appetizer (Sorry that it's not the best picture in the world):

This is so easy and yummy!  I love recipes that are easy and make you look cultured :)

Fruity Rice Krispy Treats

Hi everyone!  Truth be told I'm not a huge rice krispy treat fan, but when I tried these I 100% changed my mind!  These are super yummy and it's a fun spin on a traditional treat :)

Ingredients:

1. approximately 3/4 box rice krispies cereal
2. approximately 1/2 box fruity pebbles
3. 10 oz bag of mini marshmallows
4. 1/2 cube butter

Directions:

First melt the butter on low heat.  Then melt the marshmallows and mix in both kinds of cereal.  Pour in the cereal until coated, but don't add too much because it'll end up being too dry.  Then put into a greased 9x13 or larger pan.  Let them set up for an hour or so and then cut and serve :)

I packaged some of these up for some of my friends and they turned out pretty cute if I do say so myself:

Here's a shot of a few more:

Ok, you have to try these for realsies! They are super yummy!

DIY Broach Bouquet

Hi everybody!  Today I want to share this darling broach bouquet that my cousin Jenny made for her wedding this Summer! Isn't it awesome:

So, my cousin Jenny decided that she wanted a fun touch from her wedding that she could keep forever... Here is me and Jenny at her bridal shower:

To make this awesome bouquet Jenny went to a craft store and she bought a bouquet form. You can see the bottom of it in this picture:

She stuck her broaches into the Styrofoam and trimmed off the fabric.  Then she covered the handle part with some ribbon that matches her wedding colors.  Jenny loves Pekinese dogs so, I have to point out the bright green Pekinese broach:

I love that she was able to bring in things that she loves :)  I bet that you are all wondering where Jenny found all of these broaches right?  Well, she found a bunch of online auctions and bid pennies for each broach.  Pretty smart huh?  Here's one more view of Jenny's cute Broach Bouquet:

I love that this is fun and cute!  What a cute colorful touch for a wedding!  If you want to see more fun ideas that my cousins and I found on Pinterest check out our Jenny's Wedding Board. What do y'all think?
